Chocolate comprises a number of raw and processed foods that originate from the bean of the tropical cacao tree. It is a common ingredient in many kinds of sweets, chocolate candy, ice creams, cookies, cakes, pies, and desserts. It is one of the more popular flavours in the world.

Chocolate was discovered by early Mesoamerican civilization and cultivated by ancient Mayans and Aztecs, who used it as a basic component in a variety of sauces and beverages. The cocoa beans were ground and mixed with water to produce a bitter beverage which was reserved only to the highest noblemen and clerics of the Mesoamerican world. The word "chocolate" comes from the Nahuatl words Xocol meaning "bitter" and Atl meaning "water". Chocolate is made from the fermented, roasted, and ground beans taken from the pod of the tropical cacao tree, Theobroma cacao, which was native to Central America and Mexico, but is now cultivated throughout the tropics. The beans have an intensely flavored bitter taste. The resulting products are known as "chocolate" or, in some parts of the world, cocoa. Theobroma is Greek for "food of the gods".

It is the solid and fat combination, sweetened with sugar and other ingredients, that is made into chocolate bars and which is commonly referred to as chocolate by the public. It can also be made into beverages (called cocoa and hot chocolate). The first chocolate beverages were made by the Aztecs and the Mayas and later the Europeans. Chocolate is often produced as small molded forms in the shape of animals, people, or inanimate objects to celebrate festivals worldwide. For example, moulds of rabbits or eggs for Easter, coins for Hanukkah, Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus) for Christmas, and hearts for Valentine's Day.

Snow Patrol's Chocolate

Snow Patrol - Chocolate

This could be the very minute
I'm aware I'm alive
All these places feel like home

With a name I'd never chosen
I can make my first steps
As a child of 25

This is the straw, final straw in the
Roof of my mouth as I lie to you
Just because I'm sorry doesn't mean
I didn't enjoy it at the time

You're the only thing that I love
It scares me more every day
On my knees I think clearer

Goodness knows I saw it coming
Or at least I'll claim I did
But in truth I'm lost for words

What have I done it's too late for that
What have I become truth is nothing yet
A simple mistake starts the hardest time
I promise I'll do anything you ask...this time

Save Your Pet
POSTED AT 10:16 AM

London, Dec 10 : Here is a piece of life-saving advice-- 'Dont feed your dog chocolate, it can kill the pet.' Pet owners do not realise that chocolate is highly toxic to dogs, as it contains theobromine, a naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, which affects the central nervous system as well as the heart muscle of dog, British vets warned.

Humans and cats have the metabolism to cope with theobromine but dogs' digestive systems cannot.

Symptoms include hyperactivity, agitation, breathlessness, vomiting, diarrhoea and increased urination.

The danger to the dog depends on its size and the type of chocolate. Darker and more expensive chocolates contain higher levels of theobromine.

Vets warned against potential poisoning during the festive season, the Daily Mail reported.

Katy Horton, a vet here, said,''Pet owners often forget the hazardous aspects of the festive season. Dangers include chocolate decorations and edible presents wrapped under the tree. Avoid overfeeding your pet at Christmas, especially Christmas day leftovers; it is detrimental to their digestive system.''

Starbucks Plans to Venture into Chocolate Field

Sunday, August 19, 2007

Starbucks Corp. will start selling packages of premium "drinking chocolate" nuggets in U.S. grocery stores and other retail outlets this fall after an exorbitantly rich chocolate drink failed in stores two years ago.

Starbucks, which has teamed up with Hershey Co., also plans to roll out a line of chocolate candies next spring that will include a coffee-infused premium dark chocolate bar, milk chocolate squares with flecks of chai tea, and an espresso truffle.

The cubes of drinking chocolate will come in three flavors: a blend of dark and European-style milk chocolates, one with a marshmallow nestled in the middle and a third that's infused with peppermint.

At a tasting session Starbucks offered a group of journalists, a recipe based on three heaping tablespoons of the chocolate nuggets mixed with about six ounces of nonfat milk was not nearly as thick and rich as Chantico, a drink Starbucks discontinued in late 2005, about a year after it launched. Some complained it tasted like a melted chocolate bar.

Others said they liked it, but wanted to be able to customize it, which they couldn't do in stores.
